The units that are the object of the intervention are an ancient farmhouse dating back to 1887 near the urban centre of the municipality of Lucca and a more recent rustic annex originally used as a ‘tirasotto’. They are set in the context of the Lucca countryside, of which they present the typical characteristic features. More specifically, the buildings are located in a hilly landscape, among gentle slopes rich in woodland environments, where oaks and chestnut trees reach as far as the property.
In this context, the restoration work was aimed at maintaining and enhancing the structural elements typical of local architecture, including above all the use of face brick, Matraia stone and chestnut wood.
Pursuing this objective, and in full respect of the typical characteristics, the materials and elements used have been revised in a contemporary key, employing the construction techniques considered most appropriate, thus ensuring the achievement of the best possible result. Inside the farmhouse, natural lime-based plaster was applied by hand and with traditional spatulas and sponges, highlighting the irregular structure of the walls due to the use of materials such as stone and stone.
The recovery of the beams and hollow tiles already present by sandblasting is an explicit reference to traditional Tuscan interior architecture, brought up to date by bleaching the ceilings. The exterior of the building has been deliberately preserved unaltered in its surfaces and shapes in order to maintain its historicity without detracting from its charm, hence the choice of extremely low-profile steel exterior fixtures.
In the garden, the large swimming pool fits in perfectly with the surrounding landscape, where the design of the paving respects the vegetation and the centuries-old olive trees present, leaving its position unaltered.
The nearby volume of the tirasotto, also pre-existing, has been totally renovated internally, opting in this case for contemporary materials and colours, where the concrete floor and the black service block contribute to giving it a new identity. Finally, on the underground floor, there is a relaxation area equipped with a spa consisting of a generous whirlpool bath and a cedar wood sauna.
